Handy X XC - December 3rd

It was the rapidly improving Max who was the star of the show on the difficult course on the edge of the Chilterns, placing an excellent 7th woman and beating most of the men in the club!

Numbers were a bit down on the Sandhurst race, which meant that both teams finished 7th.

Sandhurst XC - November 26th

"Somme" race it turned out to be for the first event of the 2006/7 Club Championship, with thick mud and simply bucket and buckets of water. The light drizzle on the start line seemed quite innocuous, but the downpour that arrived 30 minutes later meant that most of the field got really rather wet. Fun though, wasn't it?

For the gentlemen, there was a welcome return to top form from Mike Bradfield who danced over the mud to an excellent 4th place. In the laydees race, Max took a well-deserved 100 points, finishing a strong 12th; she wasn't happy though, so look out for her at the next race!

8th December, back from holiday: the men's team placed 5th of 13 (2 points off 4th!), and the women placed 5th of 13 - we tied for 4th, but lost out on the scoring system that credits the team with the quicker last-scoring runner as the winner. Great running, and the best team results for some time!

Sartre reckoned that "l'enfer, c'est les autres", but the good folks at Trailplus reckon that about 11 miles of muddy, wet, hilly and generally tough running is pretty hellish!

Showing some real grit, Salome ran an impressive p.b. for an excellent overall result.

Poppy Trail 10k - October 15th

A decidedly off-road 10k in a SSSI - hills, almost jungle-like vegetation and a few more hills meant that times were meaningless (the winner (a 2:21 marathoner at Berlin) ran 34:50!). One of the loveliest races I've ever done with beautiful scenery and a sense of isolation from the world - and right on our doorstep!

Windsor Half Marathon - team results

It took a while, but the results are finally in. After a stewards enquiry, both teams finished in the runners-up spot - the men missing out on glory by only 33s! However, we provided 2 of the top 4 teams and 5 of the top 20 in the men's competition, and 3 of the top 15 in the women's - a great result for a small club.

Jim Banks Handicap 5k - September 9th

It was a close finish on the night, with newcomers Kate and Craig separated by a mere 6s at the finishing line! With 27 of the 36 finishers finishing in a 2-minute window, the handicapper clearly did an excellent job this year, and plenty of people ran close to their personal best for the distance.

Sorry for the delay in posting the full results - a few people didn't hand in the disc that recorded their finish position. If you still have a disk, please return it to any committee member!

Thanks to everyone who pointed out the errors and omissions from the first set of results that I published - I knew I was tempting fate posting at 11pm on the night after the race and after a hard-earned pint of cider!

I hope everyone is now listed - if you're not, or if you got a p.b, please contact me using the links at the top and bottom of this page.

Well done to everyone who ran on a hot day and on a hilly course.

O2O 10k, Reading - September 3rd

A very twisty course made slippy by the rain meant that times were a little down at this well-organised and well-supported race. Chris B finished 2nd overall, improving from 5th at halfway, while Gary continued his good form with a solid time just outside 40 minutes. Unfortunately the recurrence of a knee inury meant that James couldn't sustain his early lively pace, but he still ran a creditable 42 and change.

Burnham Beeches HM - August 20th

Ideal conditions meant that one of the tougher, hillier halves was pretty quick this year. Mike led the way in 15th place overall after Chris dropped out after the first lap, while Chris Hunt continued his post-Comrades recovery with a comfortable run. Ross showed that his groin injury is behind him as he continued to improve his fitness with a good run alongside Richard.

Particular congratulations to Lee who took over 4 minutes off his pb!

Ironman UK - August 20th

While most of us were still in bed, or contemplating an easy long run, Ryan was already hard at it, swimming 2.4 miles, biking 112, and then running 26.2miles to complete his first Ironman triathlon in an excellent time of 13:08:42.

And he still turned up for training tonight!

Yateley 10k race 3 - August 2nd

The excellent running conditions at Yateley - dry, cool and still - led to quick times everywhere. Tony was first man home in an excellent 38:37 to finish as 5th male super vet. He was closely pursued by the pb-setting Simon and James, with Simon also achieving a 5k p.b!

Lucy finished next, and excellent 10th in the ladies race, some way clear of Lee, who was the leader of the "pack" that crammed in between 44 and 49 minutes.

Well done to all!

Woodland 5 race 3 - July 26th

It was a red-hot evening in Crowthorne Woods, with hot moist air and no breeze making for uncomfortable running. Chris and Mike took the top honours (when was the last time that happened?), while Tony Curtin continued his excellent form to finish as 2nd male vet.

Ross made a welcome return to racing after a long time out with a groin injury; after keeping Mandy company, he did the gentlemanly thing and finished a mere second down.

There was some interesting bunching further back, with Brent and Richard finishing moments apart, and Caroline, Kathryn and the indestructible Jim Butcher fair crowding the finishing line together.

Datchet 5k - July 18th

Phew, what a scorcher! It was a desperately hot night for our home 5k, which meant that times were generally slower than the previous races. It was quick at the front though, with Chris T giving Chris B a fright for a kilometre or so, before the heat took its toll and he faded to a hard-fought and still excellent third overall.

James, Simon and Sharon continued their season-long battle, James just keeping ahead on this occasion.

Many thanks to everyone helped marshal, to everyone who brought food, and to everyone who supported the runners on the night.

Handy Cross 5k - July 11th

A suicidally fast start from Chris B entertained the field for a while, but he was eventually passed by the top 3 and was almost caught by Chris T who continued his impressive improvements this year by running a p.b. by about 20s.

Another p.b. setter was Mandy who took around an enormous 30s off her best! Sharon led the ladies home, however, a comfortable minute ahead of Maxine, who herself showed that she's getting back from her niggling back injury.

Did you set a p.b? Let me know if you did!

Burnham 5k - May 30th

The promise of a free drink drew 51 Dashers to the picturesque Burnham Beeches. In near perfect conditions, times were quick, with a number of pb's - impressive given the undulating nature of the course. If you set a pb, please email me to let me know! The link is at the top of the page.

Wargrave 5k - May 16th

And they're off! An incredible 41 Dashers ran the first 5k of the season at Wargrave, with results that speak for themselves: 2nd male vet 40 (and 5th overall), 2nd male vet 50, 2nd senior woman (and an impressive 19th overall), 4th senior woman and 4th vet 50! Congratulations to Chris, Tony, Jo, Lucy and Mick respectively.

It's worth considering: if we had this many people turn up for the cross-countries and run so well, we'd clean up!

These results are provisional and are subject to change. Full results can be found at the TVARC website.

Berkshire County Championships - May 14th

Huge congratulations to Jo Logie who returned to race on the track for the first time in a while ... and promptly walked off with the Berkshire County 1500m title! After stalking the leader for just under 3 laps, she took over and simply ran away from everyone to win by 6s in an impressive 4:49.7. There's surely much more to come!

Tony Curtin was the other competitor from the club; competing again runners 30 years or more his junior was always going to be hard, but a solid solo run saw Tony clock a good 5:06.

BA Speedbird 5k - May 3rd

It was a good night for Jo who returned to the undulating 5k course nestled near to Heathrow and successfully defended her title in an impressive 18:49, some 30s quicker than last year.

Jac Aldous, in her first race since knee surgery, had a solid run to pick up the 2nd female veteran prize in 25:10 - slower than last time, but a good indication that she's on her way back to full fitness.

Neolithic Marathon - April 30th

The club's resident madman ultra-runner, Chris Hunt, stretched his legs over this beautiful and hilly course that runs between the stone circle at Avebury and Stonehenge. It's a toughie, but just what Chris needs in the run-up to the Comrades marathon in June. He finished in an excellent 3:56:11.

Lochaber Marathon - April 23rd

Steff Molloy reports... Myra Buckley, Peely O'Neil & myself completed the Lochaber Marathon on Sunday 23rd April. It turned into a beautiful hot day with quite a few inclines but we all managed to finish...

Myra & myself finished in 3:57:20
Peely finished in 3:22.50

Shinfield 10k - May 1st

It was another successful Shinfield 10k, with 26 Dashers making the short trip down the M4 to one of the quicker courses in the area (the 2nd half is almost entirely downhill). There were good performances from many people, including Jo was was 3rd lady over the line in an impressive 38:59, and Tony who was the 3rd male super vet. Y.t. won for the 4th straight year, albeit in a injury-hit slow time.

Asthma UK 10k - April 15th

The perfectly flat Dorney Lake was blessed with cool, dry and still conditions, meaning that times were generally fast. At the front-end, Chris finished 3rd in his second race in two days, while Tony had a stunner to be the first M50 home by a good 2 minutes. Gary broke 40 minutes for the first time, while Tom took a good 5 minutes off his p.b. - an excellent early reward for the winter training.

Apologies if you ran and aren't listed - the results don't list which club people ran for. I've listed everyone whom I know ran, but please email me using the link at the bottom of the page if you ran and I've missed you off!

Maidenhead 10m - April 14th

Just as at the Wokingham half marathon, cold, damp and mostly still conditions led to some good running throughout the club. Everyone was well behind the winner though, as Phil Wicks sped to an incredible 48:34 ... some 5 minutes and a mile ahead of Chris, who came 2nd for the 3rd time in 4 years!

Rome Marathon - March 27th

Caroline Bolton and Saffron Sabine decided that when in Rome they should do as several thousand other Romans were doing and run the marathon.

Saffron finished in a very respectable 4:32:32, while Caroline sped to an impressive 3:58:34. Congratulations to them both!

Bushy Park 5k - March 4th

A small group of Dashers made the short trip to beautiful Bushy Park to take part in the weekly 5k race, and all were rewarded with good runs on a very cold morning. Times were a little slower than normal, as much of the race is run on grass. Full results, and details of this free, very nice run, can be found at http://www.bptt.net

Wokingham Half Marathon - Feb 12th

In spite of, or because of the cold, wet conditions, there were pb's aplenty at this popular event. Congratulations to everyone who ran on what looked like a miserable day, but was a very happy one for lots of people.

We didn't get too many prizes this year though - Ian was an excellent 2nd in the MV60 category, and Chris just missed out in 5th.

I've marked the pb's I know about, but let me know if you set one and I'll add you to the list!

It was a much better turnout this week for the hilliest of the regular courses. It was business as usual for Chris at the front, while Ross, Tony and Jonathan had a great race all the way round, and finished very close together (see note below).

Sharon continued her excellent form of late with a clear 4th place, again beating most of the men in the club, with Julie Le Bourg and Yvonne Olney completing the team.

Both teams finished 8th.

Please note: these are draft results from Bracknell, with some obvious errors. I am reporting the results verbatim. I will update the site as and when corrections are issued. Immediate aplogies to Ross (who beat Jonathan) and Julie (who isn't a veteran)!

Finch Coasters XC - Jan 29th

Only 3 hardy/mad souls ventured to Jane Austen country for this new fixture in the league - and received mixed fortunes for their troubles. Chris ran to an untroubled victory, while Mike fell heavily on some ice and finished much lower down than normal; Jonathan was pleased with his run, and looked very fresh at the end.

But the big question is .. where was everyone else?

Berkshire Cross-country championships - Jan 15th

We're still trying to track down the full results from the race at Burchett's Green, but the great news is that Sharon Helsby gained a county vest by finishing 5th overall, with Jo Logie just missing out in 7th. Congratulations to them both, and to everyone else who took part. I will post the full results here when I have tracked them down!

Tadley XC - Jan 8th

Updated 10th Jan. Results now final.

Well done to all those who ran on what is a surprisingly quick course, after the long, slow muddy hill near the start. Chris, Ross and Tony bunched nicely as the first 3 Dashers home, while Mandy and Salome both had good runs to finish well up the field. Both teams finished in 6th position, leading to an overall position of 6th.

Cliveden XC - December 28th 2005

Sub-zero temperatures and those hills awaited the Dashers who shrugged off their Christmas excesses and headed to the most beautiful course in the area. It was a good day for the club too, with Sharon Helsby and Chris B taking 2nd place in their respective categories. Sharon beat all bar 2 of the men from the club, while Chris just failed to make it 3 wins on the trot, placing 2nd overall behind Mike Trees from Maidenhead AC.

Photographs from the event are on Graham Russell's website.
